Medium Experiments

Cracking the Medium Code — Day 1

Photo by Girl with red hat on Unsplash

Today I officially started my Cracking the Medium Code experiment which is tailored to find out how being consistent with the engagements and publishing increases your view count. if you want to know more about the starting state and experiment setup you can read about it here.

The plan was to find 10 new followers every day by reading their stories. I prioritized people who followed me on the day before, and then move on to Medium recommended stories. Today I got followed by 7 people. I followed 4 of them back and found the remaining 6 from the stories in my “Recommended” tab. Then I moved on to the “Followers” tab and select 10 articles to read.

Daily Stats

Today is 13th October. I already see 41 views now. But I will report the full numbers tomorrow. Yesterday, the 12th of October I received 29 views.

But I can attribute most of the views to the article I published on 12th about finding Brum and the article I published on 9th on moving countries. The story I self-published about the experiment is currently sitting at 4 views.

Final Thoughts

It was particularly challenging for me to get used to the rules of my own experiment. Because I need to track the number of people I follow and stories I read, I stopped reading ad-hoc. This was challenging for me than I thought. I often found myself opening the Medium app and closing it after remembering the experiment.

My current results are too early to see the direction where the experiment is going. I will be back tomorrow with the daily progress. Bye for now!
